Security Systems

A monitored security system combines detection devices at the property with a UL-listed central station that watches for alarm signals around the clock. The equipment typically includes a control panel, door and window contacts, motion detectors, and a keypad or app for arming and disarming, with video cameras and access control added where a property needs them. When a device trips, the signal travels to the central station, where an operator verifies the alarm and dispatches police, fire, or medical response.

A monitored system sends alarm signals to a staffed central station that can dispatch emergency services on your behalf; a self-monitored system only sends a notification to your phone. With self-monitoring, nothing happens unless you see the alert and call for help yourself — which is a problem if you are asleep, travelling, or out of signal. Monitored systems also keep working through a power or internet outage on battery and cellular backup.

Systems can also be built out in stages if you want to start with intrusion detection and add cameras or door control later.

The design process is the same in each case: we assess the property, identify how someone would actually get in, and specify equipment for those points.
